Name
Wijngaardt originates from middle Dutch and is a surname that is part of the melting pot of cultures that defines South Africa. Dutch influence is inherit in South African culture and can be found in its architecture, local foods and the Afrikaans language. Wijngaardt translates to “Wine Garden” and is a descriptive word for grape vineyards.
Inspiration
This brand is inspired by the talents of our founder’s mother Patricia. As a talented seamstress she was always creating clothing for family and friends. Her career evolved into the creation of leather goods which would eventually serve as a lifeline for her family. She refined her talent and skills over many years and has become somewhat of a muse for many who have used her services or owns one of her creations.
Founder
As the founder of Wijngaardt, Shaun combines his creative passion and scientific background in the design and development of Wijngaardt products. “The work my mother has created throughout her career has always intrigued me, however everything she ever made was sent out into the world anonymously…I created Wijngaardt (which is my mother’s maiden name) as a brand that is symbolic of passion, beauty and quality.”
